A New Concept in Belt Clips

The Camera Clip by Peak Design is a new kind of belt clip for cameras. It's also a new kind of quick release system. I spent more than 30 years in the imaging industry, and I've never encountered anything like the Camera Clip before. The problem with belt clips in the past, is that they could twist, slide along your belt, and even in some cases, fall off completely. That's not good for your gear, and it is a hassle to deal with when you are trying to shoot. Additionally, it isn't practical to use most any belt clip on a backpack strap. But the camera clip works in a variety of situations with no risk of slipping or twisting. The secret is a newly designed base system that actually clamps tightly to whatever strap you hook it on.

Additionally, the new quick release system features one of the thinnest plates on any quick releases on the market, so when your camera is released, the plate rarely gets in the way.

The large knurled knobs control the space between the two halves of the base to allow it to open and receive a belt in the gap, and then tighten to hold securely.

Adjustable Base Clamp Fits a Variety of Belts and Straps

The adjustable clamp at the heart of the quick release base has two large knobs that are loosened to allow the clamp to open up. One of the knobs is attached to a pivot screw, while the other allows the top half of the clamp to swivel out, so that it can capture the belt or strap it is being secured to. Once that is done, it is swung back, and the two knobs are tightened onto the belt until it is secure and stable. It won't slip or twist, because the two halves of the base clamp together on either side of the belt, and the ridges in the clamp hold tight. It's the most securely holding system for a belt clip I've ever seen.

A Variety of Belts and Straps

The Camera Clip fits a variety of belts and straps, and tightened securely on every one that I tested. Once on, it is comfortable and be postitioned exactly where you want it for access and comfort. And it can be quickly repositioned if you go from shooting to driving, and want to keep wearing it.

Easy Glide-on Plate

The quick release plate is one of the smoothest in the world to slip onto its base. The excellent machining and smooth finish allow the plate to glide on with no binding at all even when the camera is attached.

Once it is all the way on, the quick release mechanism snaps audibly as it engages the plate. Once on, it's on. To release again, simply hold the camera and push the red button on the side.

If you want to secure the camera completely, there is a set screw on the side to lock the quick release plate to the base.

Quick Release Safety

if you wish to secure the camera to the base with no chance of the quick release being accidently released. there is a set screw on the side of the base. Simply screw that in firmly, and the plate will not come loose from the base, even if the quick release button is pressed.

There is one small flaw in the design here, in my opinion. The use of the set screw will drive the screw against the edge of the quick release plate bevel. The bevel could have been designed with a recess to receive the screw, making it more secure, and reducing marring to the edge of the bevel from using the set screw.

Rating

The innovation, build quality, fit and finish, beauty of form and the overall function are superb. With the exception of the marring that occurs to the quick release plate bevel, I find no fault whatsoever with the product. I would rate it 9.5 out of ten. I highly recommend the product.
